Associations Birthplace of Country Music in Bristol, VA/TN is an organization that promotes Bluegrass/Old Time/ Traditional Country Music in the Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee area. The Blueridge Irish Music School based out of the Charlottesville area. They foster a supportive and dynamic environment for Irish traditional music and dance in Central Virginia. The Capital Area Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Association - CABOMA for the Washington DC metropolitan area including Northern Virginia. The Crooked Road is a not for profit that promotes Virginia's Heritage Music Trail in Southwest Virginia DC Union Bluegrass is a great site for information around the DC area. This is an organization that promotes Bluegrass in the greater Washington, DC area. Island Bluegrass Alliance is an Eastern Shore group that promotes Bluegrass in that remote part of the state. JAMinc is a not for profit that hosts a lot of live music in the Richmond area as well as sponsors Chrilden's programs and provides scholarships for musicians. Outstanding line up of qualified board members to help make this organization effective. Not all Bluegrass, but some great stuff. This is not their web page, but it does have some contact info and information about their jam sessions. New River Old Time Music and Dance Association (NROT) New River Valley/Blacksburg area Old Time Music Association with lists of local jams, etc. Patrick County Music Association promotes music in the Patrick County/Stuart Virginia area. They hold monthly Shows/Jams so check their calendar for upcoming events. Piedmont Virginia Fiddle and Banjo Association meeting and Jam session First Monday's of the month. Richmond Folk Music is a Richmond, VA based organization that sponsors almost monthly concerts usually held at Congregation Or Ami at 9400 West Huguenot Road in Richmond. Roanoke Valley Fiddle and Banjo Club 35 years of promoting Bluegrass, Bluegrass Gospel and Old-Time String Music in the Roanoke Valley. Tidewater Bluegrass Association They sponsor the Bluegrass Concerts at the Hickory Ruritan Club in Chesapeake, VA every fourth Saturday at 6:00pm Tidewater Friends of Folk Music is headquartered in Norfolk. They have a nice web page and look to be pretty active. I don't know anything more about them at this time.Tri-State Bluegrass Association Serving Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Virginia Folklife Program a Public Program of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Their web site is outstanding and has a lot of information, links and biographies. Check it out! Virginia Folk Music Association Incorporated is a not for profit located in the Richmond, VA area. They do a lot of good promotion of Bluegrass music. They are chartered by the state to hold the state championship contest every year which they do at their annual festival in Cherfield, VA. They also have the state Folk Music Hall of Fame. They hold most of their activites in Chesterfield County, VA area. Also, membership is a nominal fee and the benefits are include a newsletter and discounts off of Association events. They have a montly jam session (see jam sessions) which is very good and the people are very friendly. Virginia Bluegrass & Country Music Foundation Inc. has almost the same web address as this site, so if you were looking for this not for profit organization and got to VABluegrass.com by accident - here it is. The hard work for more than 25 years by George Winn and others - this organization owns a Bluegrass & Country park in Lawrenceville, VA that is used as a venue for shows.Virginia Bluegrass Family is a not for profit that publishes a monthly magazine about Virginia Bluegrass as well as sponsors the Jahnke Rd monthly jam in Richmond. Contact Gary Robertson for more information. Virginia Heartland Bluegrass Association meets at 7:00 pm third Thursday of the month at VFW Hall in Farmville, VA. 7:00 pm followed by a jam session. They choose the top events to broadcast on the radio as well as posting on the web page. Cvillejams.com is a great site with information on jams/dancing/festivals especially around the Charlottesville, VA. This is a site put up by an individual (Olivia) using her own resources. It serves some of the same purposes for Charlottesville as the DCUnion site for DC and this site does for Richmond. Bluegrass in Galax is a great site to find out what is going on around Galax, VA in the world of Bluegrass. Event Calendar, Photo Gallery and more. Richmond Roots Revival is a concert series of Richmond musicians that do original music. They sponser concerts at several different venues around Richmond Virginia. Fretwell Bass is the upright bass super center! Jerry & Mary Jane Fretwell have more Basses than anyone I have ever seen. Fieldcrest Music and Courthouse Records is a company that records and promotes music. |
